The “Jolene” singer will release ‘Blue Smoke’ via Sony Masterworks and her own label, Dolly Records, to coincide with her world tour next year.
“It’s always great to perform at home in the good ol’ USA. We’re kicking off our Blue Smoke World Tour right here at home. I love traveling all over the world; but it’s true, there’s nothing like home,” Parton said.
The 27 inductees range from Dolly Parton’s “Jolene,”and The Rolling Stones’ “Honky Tonk Women” to Sam Cooke’s “Wonderful World” and The Sugarhill Gang’s “Rapper’s Delight.”
“Country music is really the white man’s rhythm and blues. It’s where all the pain is. Once you get to country you can’t go back because there’s no other music that’s that honest.”
“It never was hard to write a song. It was an easy thing to do to make a rhyme,” he said. “I guess songwriters are supposed to be able to do that. Whether it’s good or not, that’s up to somebody else.”
“I looked at him [Butch Walker] and said, ‘This should really be called ‘The Ballad of Jolene’ in parentheses,’” she said.

“When we did ‘Islands in the Stream’ we connected musically, when we did ‘You Can’t Make Old Friends’ we connected personally,” Rogers said. “For me, it’s not important that it’s a hit song but it’s important historically to have it on tape.”
The Rogers/Parton duet “You Can’t Make Old Friends” is the lead single from the Country Music Hall of Fame member’s upcoming album of the same name, due October 8.
