“I am woman, hear me roar.” It’s the simple phrase that Helen Reddy sang in 1971 and 42 years later would inspire Katy Perry, along with her co-writer Bonnie McKee, to write “Roar.”
Before hitting the stage for the We Can Survive concert, Katy Perry’s BFF spoke with Radio.com about her ’80s-inspired upcoming album, the inspiration behind “Roar” and the difference between writing songs for herself and writing for others.

The female bill was as wide-ranging in all corners of pop as Perry’s latest effort, “Prism,” so not only was the benefit concert Perry’s creation, it also served as a celebration of the new album.
The best cameo perhaps goes to Macklemore, who filmed himself in his bathtub just singing along wholeheartedly.
