Radio.com on iPad gives you radio you can touch, read and hear.
The new Radio.com application makes it easy for you navigate through and engage
with an expansive array of high quality content: read the latest on what's
happening with your favorite artists or find out what's happening at your
local station; follow twitter feeds; watch original videos; listen to podcasts;
discover new music and see photo slideshows, all while listening to your favorite
music, news or sports radio.
Built specifically for the iPad, radio.com improves internet radio by providing
a fun and compelling experience to simply access what you want and expose you
to what you didn't know you needed.
This is simply the default header for the iPad. It displays the time, wifi strength, and battery life.
When first launching the radio.com application, a welcome message is displayed in the Artist/Station Toggle section, along with links to the FAQ, Privacy Policy, Terms of Use and Credits. Once a station is started, this section can only be recalled by pressing the "info" button.
Registering with radio.com unlocks special features like global favoriting, and tracking and viewing song history by scrobbling to your last.fm account. To begin the registration process, simply press the registration icon and fill out the required fields.

Once registered and logged in to radio.com, a new button will appear in the Application Header. This is the "Scrobble" button. Click here for more information about scrobbling, but it's essentially a way to keep track of what you're listening to. So if you ever want to know what songs you've listened to, scrobbling will let you do it!

If, at any point in time, you'd like to return to the "featured" page, simply press the "RADIO.COM" text in the center of the header bar. This will take you back to the home page of the radio.com application where you can find featured stations, stories and content.
The radio.com app streams two distinct kinds of stations; interactive & non-interactive. Interactive stations include all of AOL & Yahoo!'s stations and a handful of CBS RADIO online-only stations, like 40 + Reunion Radio stations including top songs from 1960 to the present. Non-interactive stations include all of CBS RADIO's over-the-air sports, news and music stations, like WFAN, 1010 WINS, and KROQ.
The main difference between interactive and non-interactive stations is the ability to skip songs. Every time you launch an interactive station, you will be listening to a unique music experience. No two streams are the same! With non-interactive stations, you will be listening to the same stream that is being broadcast over the air. If you're in Los Angeles, you can listen to a station in New York as if you were really there! It's like being in two places at once!
Take that, future!
The play controls vary, depending on the type of station you are listening to. Interactive stations have pause control, while non-interactive stations can only be stopped.

While listening to an interactive station, you can pause a song and return to it later. While listening to a non-interactive station, you can stop and restart a stream, but not pause it.
Interactive stations allow you to skip songs that you may not be in the mood to listen to. Non-interactive stations do not.

You will know if you can skip a song if the skip button is in the 'active' state. If the button is inactive, you will not be able to skip any music.

Though skipping is fun, it comes with great responsibility... DMCA law prohibits more than six (6) skips every hour. In case you have trouble counting, we'll do it for you! On interactive stations only (sorry, non-interactive stations), the skip button displays with a small golden number next to it. Every time you skip a song, that number will decrease by one (1), until it reaches zero (0). When reaching 0, a message will appear reminding you that you have exceeded your skip allotment for the hour. As time forges forward, you may notice that the skip counter will begin counting up, back to 6.
You can use the built in volume adjustment on the side of the iPad, or use the touch interface to adjust the station's volume:

The main content area has two states - Station Display or Artist Display. These two pages contain wildly different content, and is sure to keep you coming back for more!
| Station Display | Artist Display |
![]() | ![]() |
The Station Display contains the freshest content from the station you are listening to, their twitter feeds, and other related blog postings. Every post, tweet or podcast links through to the station's site, so any station can link through to anything you'd like to know about a particular station!
The Artist Display contains artist bio, photos, albums and tags courtesy of our friends at last.fm. This content, too, links through to their site and allows you to take a freefall dive into as much information as you can take from your favorite artists.
Every time a station is changed, the Station Page is displayed, but you
are free to view station pages by selecting the station name and not the
play button. But we'll get to that in a moment!
The iPad brings special powers to the Artist Display. Turning the iPad to landscape view automatically renders an image viewer.

While listening to any station, you will have the opportunity to buy the currently-playing song (pending iTunes availability) and to favorite the station (save it as a preset) you're listening to:

The shopping cart (buy) icon is located within the Artist Toggle Button. If the song is available for purchase, the icon will illuminate. Simply press this icon and a dialog box will appear verifying that you want to leave the app and visit the iTunes Store.
NOTE: this will stop song playback.
The star (favorite) icon is available with every station, and when pressed, the star illuminates yellow indicating that the station has been added as a favorite. To access your favorite list, simply press the Favorites button in the bottom navigation.
All station guides are contained in the bottom navigation bar. Choose stations by genre, partner, location, or from recently listened stations or your favorites. All 600+ stations can be selected from this navigation bar.
There are three basic genres to choose from; music, news & sports:
| Music | News | Sports |

Each of these will pop out a station list containing either music, news or sports stations. The music genre is further organized by popular music genres, like alternative, country, easy listening or rock, and contains selections from CBS RADIO, Aol Radio., and Yahoo! Music.
Radio.com also allows you to choose only stations by partners - like Aol. and Yahoo!. These partners program high quality interactive radio and span every music flavor imaginable!

The map icon allows you to search the country for the best in live music, news and sports broadcasting. When selecting this view, a map will appear dotted with station indicators:

Finding and enjoying stations with radio.com is simple and fun!
Skipping songs is only available when listening to interactive stations. If the skip icon is grayed-out, you are most likely listening to a non-interactive station.
Another possibility is that you have exceeded the allowable skip allotment, as determined by the DMCA, which is 6 per hour. The skip counter will display a "0" and an error message will display indicating that you have no skips remaining.
