The first will be a burial that will take place in Tennessee, where Russell lived at the time of his death. Another has been scheduled in his home state of Oklahoma. Elton John and Willie Nelson will serve as “honorary pallbearers,” a testament to their friendship and professional admiration for Russell’s talent.

The Tennessee funeral will take place on Friday at Victory Baptist Church in Mt. Juliet. The Tulsa, Oklahoma service will be held at Oral Roberts University’s Mabee Center, which seats nearly 11,000. Doors open at 1 p.m. on Sunday.

After he became an in-demand studio musician, Russell established The Church Studio in Tulsa, home to his label Shelter Records. The building still stands and its street was renamed “Leon Russell Road” in 2010. Since the artist’s death, the building has been the site of a makeshift fan memorial, reports Tulsa World.
