Artists React to Trump Victory

"We are not a nation that will let HATE lead us," wrote Perry

By Jon Wiederhorn

It seems like everyone had it wrong except Donald Trump and his legion of followers. Practically the entire music industry seemed to be supporting Hillary Clinton. Most polls predicted she would become the first woman to be president of the United States and for weeks the media said it would be nearly impossible for Trump to carve a win through all the traditionally blue states.

But Trump defied all odds, mobilizing hordes of disaffected Americans to head the polls and vote for him. And by the end of the night he won a surprise, but indisputable, victory over Clinton.

Most musicians and celebrities reacted with anger and fear. Some had messages of defiance. In an Instagram photo, Lady Gaga stood in front of Trump Tower holding a sign that read, “Love Trumps Hate.” Katy Perry tweeted, “Do not sit still. Do not weep. MOVE. We are not a nation that will let HATE lead us.” and Chuck D wrote on Twitter, “Hitler Is Real #meinTrump.”

Others dealt used humor to soothe their wounds. Snoop Dogg said he was looking for a new home in Canada and Courtney Love suggested Americans start buying stock in brick companies for that border-spanning “wall” Trump promised to build to stop illegal immigration.

Here are some of the best comments from artists and celebrities:

I was gonna stress myself to sleep. But fuck that (I'm cussing sorry) I'm NOT letting this stress me out one bit. Don't get me wrong I am MAD AS HELL. But I have to practice what I preach. The amount of time I devote to meditating and not letting speculation or bad energy rule my life---for me to just spazz out would be counter productive. I'll be honest I went through 6 drafts of this. Erasing every last word cause I didn't even believe it as i typed it. I'm just saying: I got a laundry list to the top of Mt Fuji of things I've overcome and still managed to survive---I'm just praying whatever strength I was given to make it through the hard times of yesteryear, that this strength and power revive me and all of my people (women, those of different religious background, LGBTQIAs, prisoners, the poor, the imm---look it's 4am...---I don't feel like doing an 8th draft---some of my friends gonna be angry as all hell. Some will point fingers---nevermind....I got nothing. Right now. ---nothing
