When Britney Spears stands onstage in Vegas and announces “I’m a bitch,” it’s hard to believe her. I mean, have you seen her Instagram? The admission makes better sense when you realize that in addition to tickets to see a Britney Spears show, you’ve purchased admission to a live spoken-word reading of Meredith Brooks’ ’90s classic, “Bitch.” I’m a bitch, I’m a lover, I’m a child… you know the one.
Between songs on Wednesday night (Nov. 2), Britney launched into a recitation of that earthy, poppy classic. She even improvised some parts and flipped the bird for emphasis.
“I just wanted to let you guys know: I feel like a bitch,” she declared in a deadpan. “And a lover. And a child. And a mother. And a sinner, And a saint. And I do not feel ashamed! I’m your hell, I’m your dream. And I’m nothing in between. And I wouldn’t want it any other motherf—ing way.”
Then again, she has been announcing “It’s Britney, bitch” for almost a decade now. Watch the stirring performance art here:
