Little Big Town had a little help from another songwriter when it came to their lead single “Better Man” off their forthcoming album. And that person was none other than Taylor Swift.
Before premiering the music video, the group held a press conference this morning (Nov. 1) in Nashville to discuss their latest song. They said Swift wrote it and pitched them the track. “She sent us this song and it was one that was really special to her and she thought of us because of the harmonies,” Karen Fairchild said. “She’s never pitched a song to somebody before. The moment that we heard it, we were like ‘Man, that is the song that we’re gonna cut.'” (via Sounds Like Nashville).
Set in a country home surrounded by wild horses and fields, the video has a rural feel to it. “Better Man” examines three generations of single parents. Each one raises a child who goes on to find themselves in a similar situation, wherein their partner isn’t a “better man” and leaves them behind.
Things change at the end, though, when the latest generation adult, played by Philip Sweet, has a girl rather than a boy and seems to offer her the kind of role model that will change their family’s pattern.
