Dave Matthews will headline a concert in support of a tribe of Native Americans who oppose the Dakota Access Pipeline.
The controversial pipeline would run through land owned by the Sioux in Standing Rock. The tribe claims the project threatens public health and welfare on the reservation, specifically endangering their water supply.
“How can we continue to allow oil money to dictate our environmental and social policies? The people of Standing Rock, and those who are supporting them, are standing up for their children and all of our children,” said Dave Matthews in a prepared statement. “We are letting the Dakota pipeline silence their voices. Not only are they desecrating sacred lands, but they also threaten to poison the Missouri River.”
The concert will take place at DAR Constitution Hall in Washington, D.C. on Sunday, November 27th. Additional artists are expected to be announced soon.
