As Gorillaz fans prep for next year’s release of the virtual band’s new album, the various characters from the group are making the rounds. Noodle, the guitarist, is repping Jaguar Racing. We’ve learned more about Russel’s backstory. Now Murdoc has given a roving interview about Brexit and Ringo Starr.
“Why would I leave somewhere so great? Did you know Lithuania ranked number one in the world for internet upload and download speeds? Imagine what you could stream with that,” he mused about Great Britain’s vote to leave the European Union.
But who’s the greatest living musician, you ask?
“Me,” he demurred. “But credit where it’s due, for sheer versatility and staying power, I’d have to give a nod to Ringo Starr. While everyone else was coked out of their minds in the eighties, he did his career’s finest work on Thomas the Tank Engine.”
Russel gave a cryptic answer in another interview about how soon new music will drop.
“You can expect whatever you like,” he said. “What is coming will come, whether you expect it or not.”
Co-creator Jamie Hewlett announced in June that the album will debut next year.
