Bob Dylan Kind of Acknowledges Nobel Prize

By Amanda Wicks

If the public or even the Nobel Committee were waiting for a big response — or even some kind of response — from Bob Dylan himself about the fact that he’d been awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature, they may have to keep waiting. The prolific singer/songwriter has acknowledged the award, but it’s hardly the kind of announcement anyone was expecting.

On Dylan’s website, the page listing his lyrical compendium, The Lyrics: 1961-2012, now boasts the headline “WINNER OF THE NOBEL PRIZE IN LITERATURE.” It’s an under-the-radar way of admitting he accepts, and pure Dylan through and through.

The Nobel Committee has had difficulty getting Dylan on the phone to verify whether he will attend the December 10th banquet honoring recipients, which is held in Stockholm each year. But given this update to his website, it seems likely he’ll show up, even if it will be a very low key arrival and attendance.

Dylan is the first American writer to earn the award since Toni Morrison in 1993.
