Drake University in Iowa has been trying to get its not-namesake Drake to visit for years. And on Tuesday night (October 4), under cover of darkness, he did just that.
Drake was in Des Moines performing as part of his Summer Sixteen tour. When he announced the show in May, Drake University’s press team issued a public invitation to finally #BringDraketoDrake. He actually responded, saying he’d visit when everyone least expected it.
After finishing up his show, Drake pranked the university by visiting campus and posing with the sign. He even stood outside sorority houses and used his Instagram Stories for the first time to share teasing video. “Kappa Kappa Gamma, I’m outside of your sorority house right now and you’re all asleep,” he said.
Even if students were bummed to miss Drake, the university capitalized on his appearance, going so far as to put down footprints where he stood by the school’s sign so others can pose in that very spot.
With all that cheeky behavior, Drake seems to be in good health but a recent ankle injury has forced him to postpone his upcoming shows in Toronto and Philadelphia. He posted on October’s Very Own blog how he was under doctor’s orders not to perform at his most intense upcoming shows. “We are over 50 shows in and I have done everything to power through my recent ankle injury and leave it all out there on the stage every night,” he wrote, adding later, “Thank you again for your understanding and I can’t wait to see you all again with new music and a stronger ankle.”
