Chris Lane on Covering Mario’s ‘Let Me Love You’

"The more I thought about it, lyrically, this song was a country song all the way."

Over the past few months, Chris Lane has become known as the country singer with the falsetto voice. That was on full display on his hit single “Fix,” and it’s also on “Let Me Love You,” a cover of an R&B hit from 2004.

“‘Let Me Love You,’ I’ve been playing the song out for a couple of years, it’s a Mario cover that I used to love, back in the day. And the more I thought about it, lyrically, this song was a country song all the way.”

After playing it live for a while, Lane thought it would work for his album, Girl Problems. “I brought it to the attention of my manager and producer and said, ‘Hey, what do you think about me covering this song on my record?’ He’s like ‘Well, let’s get in the studio and record it, and we’ll take it from there.’ Everybody was happy with the way it turned out. I love the way it turned out. That song was popular fifteen years ago. I created a country version of it, and I think it worked. People seem to be excited about it!”

Chris Lane is currently on tour; check his dates on Eventful.
