By Robyn Collins

Ray LaMontagne is gonna have some disappointed fans tonight at the University of Texas.

The singer canceled a show on the campus in protest of a new state law that allows concealed handgun license holders to carry their weapons into public college buildings. This includes the university’s Bass Concert Hall, where he was scheduled to perform, reports Billboard.

In a statement regarding the cancellation, LaMontagne said he considers himself “very open-minded” but he can’t support allowing guns on college campuses. “There are a lot of things this country needs more of, but guns aren’t one of them.”

The university made a statement that school officials regret the cancellation but respect LaMontagne’s decision. The school also pointed out that the university’s gun policy was based on state law allowing concealed handguns inside the building.
