The Pixies’ new record, Head Carrier, is coming out at the end of the month. However, the underground rock stars are putting off promoting it to take care of some personal business.
Guitarist Joey Santiago, checked himself into a 30-day program at a rehab facility to work on drug and alcohol issues. The band released a statement letting fans know what’s going on:
Today, Pixies’ Black Francis, David Lovering and Paz Lenchantin confirmed that the band’s lead guitarist Joey Santiago has checked into a rehabilitation center for at least 30 days to treat his alcohol and drug issues.
“This is the best thing that Joey could have done, and we’re very proud that he’s taken this step,” said the band’s David Lovering. “We ask all of our fans to support Joey while he’s on this road to recovery.”
The release also stated that while Santiago’s rehab would affect some planned promotional activity, the band intends to honor their scheduled fall dates in the UK and Europe.
