What’s got five members who troll around L.A. in a convertible looking for weddings? The new Maroon 5 video for their single “Sugar.”
For this one the guys decided to do their own take on Wedding Crashers (it’s directed by the film’s director David Dobkin) and hit, as frontman Adam Levine explains, “as many weddings in one day as we can.”
The group sends scouts ahead to set up their backline at the Park Plaza Hotel, whose ballroom is a well known wedding destination. The big unveil gives us a thrilled bride (and entire wedding party), after a bit of tension in which the father of the bride is all, “what the hello kitty are you people doing here?”
The video has fun showing shocked kitchen staffers, confetti cannons and enthusiastic reception-goers but the big payoffs for most of us are the parade of wedding gowns and designed locations. It’s like a little game of “what kind of bride are you?” WASP-y bride? Korean bride? Outdoor bride? Puffy dress bride? The kind of bride who’d say, “What the f—?!?” if Maroon 5 surprised you and showed up at your wedding reception to play?
The guys make it to seven different receptions, which is a more than full day for any wedding band.
“Sugar” is the newest single off V, Maroon 5’s fifth album, out last August.
