Her new song (and one of her favorites) “Out of the Woods,” which she revealed a snippet of on Good Morning America this morning, will be available to fans today at midnight on iTunes. Hear the brand new song here.
She told the morning show that the song is about the “fragility and breakable nature of some relationships.” It’s about a relationship where she was “living day to day, wondering where it was going, if it was going to go anywhere or was going to end the next day.”
“It was a relationship where you never felt like you were standing on solid ground,” she explained. “And that kind of a feeling brings on excitement, but also extreme anxiety and kind of a frantic feeling of wondering, endless questions.”
The song, which she wrote with fun. and Bleachers singer, Jack Antonoff and you can hear a :36 second snippet of here, features lines like, “The rest of the world was black and white / We were in screaming color / Are we out of the woods, yet / Are we in the clear?”
Swift goes on to say that the song sounds like all of those anxieties, but it “stresses that a relationship is breakable and fragile and full of anxiety doesn’t mean it isn’t worthwhile, exciting and beautiful and all the things we hoped for.”
So, even though Taylor said there would be no talk of ex-boyfriends on this album, she’s got us wondering who this song is about. Was it Harry Styles that caused her so much stress? Hmmm.
Swift started teasing this new song on Instagram on Thursday (Oct. 9) posting a photo of a beautiful forest, captioning it with a countdown of #5days #1989.
Though this is the second song Taylor is revealing from her upcoming album, she’s made quite clear it is NOT her next single, just a taste of 1989.
To clarify, what is coming in the next few days is a new song that I think best represents #1989. It is NOT my next single. #ShakeItOff—

In anticipation of her new album, Swift has been having a little fun in London, heading to BBC One to cover Vance Joy’s “Riptide,” something Joy was pretty happy about, tweeting there’s “a lot of emotion and joy” in her cover.
Swift also showed up at the UK’s X Factor to perform “Shake it Off” with some tuxedoed dancers.
And even let comedian John Cleese have a little fun at her cat, Olivia’s expense on The Graham Norton Show. Cleese, you might want to watch out, she may just write a song about you.
1989 is out October 28.
