Chris Brown is Moving On in New Song ‘X’: Listen

By Kevin Rutherford

The title track off Chris Brown‘s X finds the singer moving on from a past relationship.

Which relationship is anyone’s guess — Rihanna? Karrueche Tran, with whom he recently got back together? — but whatever it’s about, Brown sounds fairly adamant in new song “X,” released today (Aug. 22).

“X” begins as a quiet, subdued number, with a slower tempo and minimal instrumentation. But soon, a drum machine picks up the pace, Brown making a sudden, impassioned declaration, his voice on edge: “I swear to god I’m moving on.”

“I can see from this high up / You ain’t got a heart, girl,” he sings about the lady that’s wronged him, who apparently likes to “heart shop” and put him “on layaway.”

The song is the newest taste of Brown’s X, out Sept. 16.
