All things considered, it could have been worse.
Gucci Mane was arrested last year after he was arrested while carrying a firearm, and has spent the last year in jail awaiting sentencing.
Today (Aug. 20), the 34-year-old rapper, born Radric Davis, pled guilty to a gun charge that carried a maximum sentence of 10 years. He got off relatively lightly with 39 months, 28 of which he must serve starting today since he’s already spent 11 months behind bars awaiting the ruling.
After his release, the rapper will remain on parole for three more years.
Guccin requested to serve his term on the west coast rather than in his native Atlanta, in a prison with a drug rehab program. AJC adds: “U.S. District Court Judge Steve Jones, a self professed Four Tops fan, said he was unfamiliar with Davis’ music but added, ‘young people – my nieces and nephews – tell me you are quite cool.'”
One thing that’s for sure, no prison sentence will keep Gucci from releasing new music: he’s promised to drop eight more mixtapes in 2014 alone, with the first of those eight, Gucci vs. GuWop, out now.
