Arcade Fire Are a Work of Art in New Video for ‘You Already Know’: Watch

By Shannon Carlin

Arcade Fire have been showing that they understand the art of covers, but in their latest video they take a more fine art approach.

In the clip for “You Already Know,” which was directed by Win Butler, the band rehearse their latest single off Reflektor. But Win seems to be nowhere in sight, it’s instead the artwork on the walls that’s doing the singing. Yes, the pink-eyed paintings have been mic’d up for the clip and sound suspiciously like Win Butler.

Is Arcade Fire’s music actually a work of art? We’ll let you decide.

One thing we can assume though is that it will not be as controversial as their previous video for “We Exist,” which featured Spider-Man actor Andrew Garfield in drag.

Against Me!’s singer, Laura Jane Grace objected to the casting of Garfield in the main role for the video instead of a trans actor. Grace later reversed her position after speaking with the video’s consultant, trans musician Our Lady J, tweeting, “Just got done talking w/ @ourladyj about her involvement in the @arcadefire video. Her perspective really made me think about it differently.”

The band is currently on tour until the end of the month.
