Stevie Nicks Returns with New Song ‘The Dealer’: Listen
By Kevin Rutherford
Stevie Nicks returns this fall with a new album, her first solo release since 2011’s In Your Dreams.
Today (Aug. 5), the first taste of that new album is here, with the audio and accompanying lyric video for “The Dealer” out now.
A mid-tempo rocker, “The Dealer” features multi-part harmonies and rootsy guitar, as well as occasional piano.
Much like Kenny Rogers’ “The Gambler,” “The Dealer” utilizes card game imagery in its lyrics. “I was the mistress of my fate / I was the card shark,” Nicks sings. “If I’d’ve looked a little ahead / I’d’ve run away.”
“The Dealer” is off 24 Karat Gold – Songs from the Vault, a collection of songs recorded over different periods in Nicks’ career, dating all the way back to 1969.
“Each song is a lifetime. Each song has a soul. Each song has a purpose. Each song is a love story,” Nicks said in a press release. “They represent my life behind the scenes, the secrets, the broken hearts, the broken hearted and the survivors. These songs are the memories — the 24 karat gold rings in the blue box. These songs are for you.”
24 Karat Gold is due out Oct. 7.
