Jack White Beats Out Pearl Jam For Best-Selling Vinyl Album

By Shannon Carlin

Jack White and his Third Man Records have been touting vinyl’s superior status for nearly 15 years. Now it seems his fan have gotten the message loud and clear.

According to Billboard, White sold 60,000 vinyl copies of his latest album, making it the biggest selling vinyl LP of the year. Currently, the total vinyl sales make up 25 percent of the album’s 238,000 total sales.

Even more noteworthy, it’s the biggest vinyl release since Pearl Jam’s Vitalogy in 1994. Yes, that was two decades ago. Though is should be noted, Soundscan has only been tracking vinyl sales since 1991.

To understand the impressiveness of this, the second-biggest selling vinyl LP of year so far is Arctic Monkeys’ AM with 29,000 copies sold.

Last year, the largest selling vinyl album was the GRAMMY winner for Album of the Year, Daft Punk’s Random Access Memories selling 49,000 copies.

We just hope Jack is happier about this new milestone than he is about watching the Chicago Cubs.
