Keith Urban Concert Sends 22 People to the Hospital

Turns out, country shows can get as rowdy as EDM ones. Case in point: Keith Urban’s concert this past Saturday (July 26) in Mansfield, MA where 22 people were sent to the hospital due to “alcohol-related issues.”

According to The Boston Herald, EMS attended to a total of 46 people suffering from alcohol-related illnesses, with 22 of those being sent to the hospital. Police also reportedly took more than 50 people into custody and made several alcohol-related arrests.

The large quantity of those needing medical attention in a period of just three hours caused the EMS to activate phase one of a plan that has them using ambulances from five local communities.

In a joint statement from the Mansfield Police Chief and Fire Chief they said, “Last evening’s Keith Urban concert was not anticipated to present with the volume of issues handled, but measures were in place to provide appropriate and adequate care and protection to all patrons. As a result, although there was a higher than expected volume, appropriate care was available through the expandable model.”

Following the show, Urban didn’t seem to know what had gone on at the 18,000 capacity show, tweeting a video message to fans of him singing the Bee Gees hit “Massachusetts.”

“What a great night tonight. It was killer,” Urban said. “Gosh, up on the lawn tonight, that was nutso. It was so cool.”

If he only knew how nutso it really was. Urban has yet to respond to the most recent reports.

Last month, an Avicii show in Boston turned into a Level 2 Mass Casualty Incident with 36 concertgoers being rushed to the hospital.
