Tyler Farr is celebrating his second consecutive No. 1 hit with his latest single “Whiskey in My Water.” This week, the song went to the top of the Mediabase Country Airplay chart and marks Farr’s first No. 1 as a songwriter.
Written with Phillip LaRue and Jon Ozier, Farr said the three were at a writing retreat in East Tennessee when the song “just came out.”
“I write country music for country music fans,” he told Radio.com last year. “I write about the country lifestyle and what I know about. I don’t know if I’ll ever completely figure out women. Actually, I know I won’t. I may have figured out whiskey.”
He added: “It’s just a song about a country guy telling a girl that he loves her and what he thinks about her and doesn’t know how to quite say it so he says she’s the moon in his shine and the whiskey in his water.”
Radio.com caught up with the singer at this year’s ACM Awards where he talked about the success of his first single, “Redneck Crazy” going to No. 1 and why he hopes “Whiskey In My Water” does the same.
“‘Redneck Crazy’ went beyond my expectations. It definitely changed my life. It allowed fans to bring more fans in to know me,” he said. “I moved to Nashville when I was 21. I’m 30 now. To hear people singing, not only a chorus but every word of a song back to you is pretty special. I love every minute of it. That’s why I wake up every morning and do what I do, to hear that.”
