Watch Lady Gaga’s Surprise Performance with Tony Bennett at Montreal Jazz Fest

By Annie Reuter

The Montreal Jazz Festival attendants were in luck last night (July 1) as Lady Gaga made a surprise appearance during Tony Bennett‘s set.

Bennett was a confirmed performer at the festival in Montreal. Already in town for an ArtRave concert in Montreal today (July 2), Gaga decided to take the stage with Bennett to perform several songs off their upcoming jazz collaboration release Cheek to Cheek.

The music, off an oft-delayed album that’s purportedly coming later this year, certainly fit in well both in the festival’s wheelhouse and in Bennett’s. Meanwhile, for Gaga, jazz may not be the first genre that comes to mind when thinking of the pop star, but the shoe fits fairly snugly on the just-debuted tracks.

Listen below as Bennett and Gaga perform “But Beautiful” and “Lush Life” from the concert last night.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Bennett said Gaga reached out to him about the project, which is due out later this year.

“Of all things, she called me from New Zealand and said, ‘I want to do a jazz album with you,’” he told the mag. “And I said, ‘You got it!’ So that’s one of the things we’re gonna do.”
