Indie duo She & Him have hit the big leagues. The group, comprised of M. Ward and Zooey Deschanel, have just signed to Columbia Records.
Their fifth studio album will be released this fall on major label Columbia as the band just announced their departure from independent label Merge Records.
She & Him have previously released three Volume-titled albums and a Christmas record called A Very She & Him Christmas. Their best selling album was their 2011 holiday release, which totaled over one million in sales, according to Billboard.
Ward and Deschannel met on the set of the film The Go-Getter in 2007. During rehearsal, director Martin Hynes introduced them to each other and asked them to sing together for the end credits of the film. At the time, Ward was producing the movie’s soundtrack. What started as one song formed into a full-fledged band.
Deschanel is best known for her acting credits (Almost Famous, 500 Days of Summer, The New Girl) but has played music for most of her life. She wrote and performed the theme song for her sitcom New Girl, which Prince guested on earlier this year.
