Iggy Pop Gets Apology From Amnesty International for Implying That he Thinks Justin Bieber Sucks

Amnesty International has issued an apology to the singer for their campaign, which satirically attributed the quote, “The future of rock ‘n’ roll is Justin Bieber,” to Pop and used an image of him without his permission.
In a statement on their website, Amnesty International wrote, “To generate awareness about our campaign against torture, Amnesty International Belgium French speaking section used an image of Iggy Pop without his authorization. Even though we acted in good faith, we would like to apologise to Iggy Pop for having done so.”
The group clarified, saying that campaign was meant to bring public awareness to the ineffectiveness of torture. Their aim was to present the idea that a man under torture will say anything to stop it.

“We would therefore also like to make it clear that the statement attributed to Iggy Pop that he believes Justin Bieber is the future of rock and roll does not represent Iggy Pop’s personal opinion but was part of the creative process for this campaign and was intended to be ironic,” the statement concludes.
No word on Amnesty International’s stance on libel and creative commons licensing.
