Toby Keith’s New York Restaurant Owes $252,000 in Taxes

Toby Keith may not be ‘loving this bar’ right now — at least, one particular franchise of his I Love This Bar & Grill restaurant chain.

That’s because, according to, the Toby Keith’s I Love this Bar & Grill in Syracuse, N.Y., has been slapped with a new tax warrant from the state for $107,000. Combined with existing sales-tax debt from earlier in 2013, the total owed is now more than $252,000.

The state of New York has filed a tax warrant against the Syracuse restaurant this month due to sales taxes owed to the state from the last quarter of last year.

The new debt stems from unpaid sales taxes from the fourth quarter of 2013. The previous debit is from the second and third quarters of that same year.

The warrant means the state can begin collecting taxes through deductions from bank accounts and other measures, perhaps leading to total seizure of the restaurant.

Toby Keith’s I Love this Bar & Grill has 16 locations around the country, all named for his 2003 No. 1 country hit “I Love This Bar.”
