Mastodon’s first new album in three years won’t be out until June 24. But thanks to iTunes Radio, fans will get a chance to check out their latest release, Once More ‘Round the Sun, a whole week early.
The band told Paste that the record is “60-or-so minutes of pure, authentic Mastodon.”
“We’re all over the world as far as themes go,” singer/bassist Troy Sanders said. “But there are a few sprinkles of epic goodness.”
The guys have also said that the new album will take up where there last one, 2011’s The Hunter, left off.
“We recorded it and took it on the road with us, and then we headed back to our rehearsal space and started working out ideas,” Sanders explained. “I’ve had a lot of time to ingest this record, and it’s solid. It’s a large slab of granite. I’m once again completely proud of these guys.”
The band also recently announced that they’ll be accepting Bitcoin to pay for their upcoming release, making Mastodon the first major label band to offer their album through the service.
Mastodon are currently finishing out a few dates in the States before heading overseas. They head back to North American this September, kicking things off at the Hopscotch Festival in Raleigh, NC on September 6.
