Revered Wu-Tang Clan rapper Raekwon is back in action with a new solo single, “Call of Duty,” and he’s brought Akon along for the ride.

“Call of Duty” opens with Akon’s distinctive melodic vocals on the hook that set the stage for Raekwon to fire off his first verse in his own inimitable style. The song’s reggae lilt and pop appeal give the tune potential crossover appeal that could impact multiple genres.

The track is taken from Raekwon’s forthcoming sixth studio album, FILA (Fly International Luxurious Art), which is scheduled for release sometime in 2014. “Call of Duty” follows previously released tracks “All About You” (featuring Estelle), “Soundboy Kill It” (featuring Melanie Fiona) and “A Rainy Day.”

This new solo single emerges after Rawkwon’s highly publicized spat with Wu-Tang Clan leader RZA over the legendary hip-hop group’s forthcoming full-length, A Better Tomorrow, with Raekwon threatening not to appear on the album. RZA let it be known that without his input, the entire project was in jeopardy. The album was originally slated to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the group’s storied 1993 debut, Enter the Wu Tang (36 Chambers).

The two eventually settled their differences with a public truce and the news that Raekwon will indeed be making his vocal presence felt on the new Wu-Tang Clan record.

Meanwhile, Akon continues his string of appearing on others’ songs, rather than his own. He hasn’t released a full-length since 2008; Stadium, a supposed follow-up, has been rumored for years, with no release date to show for it.
