Nicki Minaj has been teasing her return to her early, one might call, rougher style with songs like “Lookin’ Ass N***a,” “Yasss Bish!” and “Chi-Raq,” but with her latest single, “Pills n Potions,” she shows her sweeter side.
The song, which is reportedly the first single off her upcoming third album, The Pink Print, has Minaj rapping over some heavy bass about other self-righteous rappers who used to wish bad upon her before they saw how well she’s doing.
“Even though you out here looking so ungrateful,” she raps, “I’m a keep it moving, be classy and graceful.”
On the track, there’s no Roman Zolanski or his mother, Martha, just Minaj making it clear she can forgive, but she won’t necessarily forget, singing, “I’m angry, but I still love you.”
Though there is no official release date for her new album, which is slated for some time this year, Minaj has said it will be a return to real hip-hop. No bubblegum pop for her.
“I went so far to the other side that there’s only one place to go from there,” Minaj told MTV. “You can either continue doing costumes or you can just say, ‘Hey, guess what? This will shock them even more. Doing absolutely nothing will shock them even more.'”
