Morrissey has teamed up with PETA for a new video that brings awareness to the horrors of the experience of chickens raised for meat.
The former Smiths frontman’s “I Know It’s Gonna Happen Someday” is set as the backdrop of a three-and-a-half minute video that shows the tortured journey of a young chick. In the clip, a tearful orphaned chicken is dreaming of green pastures while it is stuck in a cage, awaiting its soon-to-be death.
The description of the video explains the big issue: “Every year, 8 billion chickens are orphaned, stuffed into severely crowded sheds, and trucked to slaughter.”
Its release comes just days before Morrissey’s 55th birthday. The singer has championed groups like PETA, having advocated for the group multiple times prior to the team-up for the video.
The video, created by PETA and animated by Anna Saunders, will be featured on Morrissey’s current tour.
Morrissey kicked off his tour earlier this month. His new album, World Peace is None of Your Business, is out July 6.
