It’s all come down to this.
Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer, Chad Smith and his comedian doppelgänger, Will Ferrell will officially face off for one epic drum battle next Thursday (May 22) on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
This battle will hopefully finally answer the ultimate question, “Who is the Real Chad Smith?”
Since February, when Ferrell admitted that he’s really Smith and that “there is no Will Ferrell” in a Reddit AMA, it’s been the question on all of our minds. This battle will finally put the two men in the exact same place for the first time, ending all belief that they are actually the same person.
The battle more importantly will help a good cause by raising money for Cancer for College, a charity that provides college scholarships for cancer survivors, and Little Kids Rock. The pair had previously raised more than $300,000 for the battle to occur.
In an interview with Rolling Stone, Smith expressed confidence that he would take home a win. “I’m all for it,” he said. “But unless Will’s been practicing or is secretly a crazy, wild drummer, I think it’ll be evident right off the bat who the real Chad Smith is. I’m ready to take him down.”
Smith has also set a pretty hefty wager saying, “If I win, he has to wash my car for a month and give me pedicures. If I lose, I have to be his stand-in for his next film.”
Ferrell on the other hand, seemed reserved to the fact that there can only be two outcomes in the battle between him and Smith, telling the magazine, “I have not been practicing. There’s no amount of practice that would help me become a good drummer.”
Maybe instead of drumming, Ferrell can play a little jazz flute.
