Flaming Lips Releasing Beatles Tribute, Featuring ‘Fwends’ Miley Cyrus, Moby

By Kevin Rutherford

Last March, it was reported that the Flaming Lips were recording a Beatles cover of “Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds” with none other than Miley Cyrus, frontman Wayne Coyne informing the world that they were “gonna love” the track if they liked the iconic rock band or John Lennon and adding the she’s-just-bein’-Miley hashtag #musicthatishardtotwerkto.

That recording is finally coming to fruition — plus more, with a little help from some more of Wayne Coyne and co.’s “fwends.”

The band announced today that they will release a full tribute to Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. Titled With a Little Help From My Fwends, the record is out this October and features, in addition to Cyrus, Moby, Electric Würms and more, though other collaborators have not yet been revealed.

The album goes up for pre-order on Sunday (May 18) and will include a digital download of the “Lucy” cover teased last March, with Moby coming onboard for the track additionally.

An amount of the proceeds for Fwends will benefit Oklahoma City’s Bella Foundation, a non-profit helping pet owners struggling to pay for veterinary care. The Flaming Lips are from Oklahoma City.

With a Little Help From My Fwends comes Oct. 28 on Warner Bros.
