Following its debut at opening night of the Tribeca Film Festival in April, Variety reports that Tribeca Films will release the documentary Time Is Illmatic, about the release and subesquent influence of Nas’s landmark 1994 album.
The film will be released in October to theaters and VOD in North America on the same day. It will be accompanied in some cities by live performances from Nas, but the details are not yet released.
Time is Illmatic was written by Erik Parker and produced by Parker, One9 and Anthony Saleh.
The release of the documentary is in conjunction with the 20-year anniversary of the release of Illmatic, which Nas also marked with an expanded release of the album and a series of front-to-back performances of the album. It recalls the recording of Illmatic, which is considered one of hip-hop’s classic albums, 20 years ago
