In 1998, legendary Led Zeppelin guitarist/producer Jimmy Page and hip-hop impresario Sean “Puff Daddy” Combs collaborated on a track called “Come With Me” (with a little help from Rage Against The Machine‘s Tom Morello) for the ill-fated big-budget version of Godzilla.

This week, the “King of the Monsters” returns to theaters in a reboot that mercifully forgets the ’98 film; neither Page nor Combs (who in the years since has changed his name to Puffy, P. Diddy and just Diddy and back to Puff Daddy) are involved in the revamp.

But if either artist was too upset that they weren’t invited back to the franchise, they could at least console themselves with their brand new honorary doctorates that they each earned over the weekend.

Page was feted at the commencement ceremonies for Boston’s Berklee College of Music. CBS Boston reported that he told the 900 graduates his speech that there is no bigger joy than doing what you love. “In bringing joy and pleasure to other people, it can’t be pretty much better than that, can it?”  He noted that he was actually self-taught, and learned guitar from listening to records.

Combs, meanwhile, got a doctorate from the school he dropped out of after two years: Washington, D.C.’s Howard University.

The man who may very well change his name to Dr. Diddy joked with graduates that it took most of them four years to get to that point. “I got you all beat. It took me 26 years to get on this stage!” (He dropped out in 1990).

Of course, few of those graduates will go on to collaborate with a former member of Led Zeppelin, while dropping lines like, “Damn these hoes! You’re stepping on my toes!” or “I want to fight you/I’ll f***ing bite you/Can’t stand nobody like you!” over the hook to “Kashmir.” So he’s got that going for him.
