Listen: Jazmine Sullivan Returns to Music with Meek Mill-Featuring ‘Dumb’

By Scott T. Sterling

Soul/R&B artist Jazmine Sullivan is preparing her first new album in four years, Reality Show, and is offering fans a preview of what to expect with the release of first single.

“Dumb,” the new song and her first in nearly a half-decade, featuring a verse from rapper and fellow Philadelphia native, Meek Mill.

The track finds Sullivan’s powerful voice soaring over a mid-tempo beat and ghostly chant-like backing vocals. The singer rails at a less-than-intelligent suitor, while Mill plays the counterpoint role with a spiky verse in his own defense.

While a release date for Reality Show has yet to be announced, the full-length will follow 2010 album, Love Me Back, which yielded a pair of singles: “Holding You Down (Goin’ in Circles)” and “10 Seconds.”

Sullivan was recently revealed as one of the artists to perform at this year’s Essence Thursday NOWPLAYING Concert on July 3 in New Orleans alongside Nas, Trey Songz and K. Michelle. The event will kick off the 20th anniversary of the annual Essence Festival, which is set for Fourth of July weekend and will feature such artists as Prince, Mary J. Blige and Lionel Richie.
