Avicii has scheduled his first festival date since falling ill in Miami earlier this year — at a rock ‘n’ roll cookout.

The EDM superstar has been announced as the headliner for the 22nd Annual KROQ Weenie Roast in Los Angeles on May 31, a show that traditionally features rock acts to top the bill. Headliners in recent years have included the Black Keys, Coldplay and Linkin Park (KROQ is a station).

While Avicii has returned to the decks in the clubs of Las Vegas since recovering from surgery to remove his gall bladder and a ruptured spleen, the KROQ Weenie Roast appearance at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre will be his first large-scale festival appearance post-surgery.

The “Wake Me Up” DJ/producer’s presence at the top of the KROQ bill has not gone unnoticed by some rock-leaning fans of the station, who’ve taken to social networks to question the booking. “Next year how about get bands that play actual instruments,” groused one commenter on Facebook. At the same time, other fans are excited to see the festival branch out into EDM: “Love it. All the haters can stay home.”

Tickets for event which is also set to feature Foster the People, Fall Out Boy, Bastille and more, will be available via an exclusive KROQ Street Team onsale this Friday, May 9 at noon PT.
