Mariah Carey fans may not be pleasantly surprised by the singer’s forthcoming yet-to-be-titled release, after all.

While last week various outlets claimed the singer would be pulling a “Beyoncé” with a surprise release of her 14th album, further interviews from the singer’s camp denounce this rumor.

The current Billboard cover girl, Carey admits that a Beyoncé approach to her album was discussed as she wanted her fans to hear the album “as a body of work” and experience it “as if they were listening to it with me for the first time,” she told Billboard.

Several interviews from Jermaine Dupri confirmed this discussion, but Carey’s record label Def Jam said that the album won’t be a complete surprise.

“Mariah will announce the date and title in advance of the on-sale date,” Laura Swanson, the label’s exec VP-media said.

Swanson added that the album is currently involved in a traditional release strategy with a cover and track list to be announced preceding the label’s supposed late May release.

Carey’s 14th studio album was originally planned for a May 2013 release, nearly a year ago. It was then pushed back to July 23 before being shelved after she dealt with a shoulder injury.

This weekend, Carey was in the studio putting the final touches on the album, according to a tweet from the singer.
