Fans have been waiting for Mariah Carey to announce the release date of her new album. But it seems, she’d rather just surprise them all.
The magazine reports that Mariah will surprise fans by revealing everything about her new album at once, this means the title, tracklisting, artwork and, most importantly, the music. The plan is to drop it “via to-be-announced digital partners” with a physical release planned to come out the following week.
“I have to be the one that announces this, especially the title,” Mariah told the mag, explaining that the album takes its name from a “personal possession of mine that’s part of an entity that I’ve had almost all my life.”
After lackluster sales of her latest singles, including “You’re Mine (Eternal),” Mariah’s probably hoping this move will also earn Queen Bey-style sales. Beyoncé earned the fastest selling iTunes release ever and debuted at No. 1, selling over 617,000 copies. This also helped earn her the title of the first woman to reach No. 1 with her first five studio albums.
In her interview with Billboard, Mariah also revealed the list of collaborators on her upcoming release–her first since 2009’s Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel–which, include producers like Hit-Boy and Mike Will Made It, with cameos from Wale, Nas and Trey Songz. She also says, fans should expect to hear more power ballads from the diva on this upcoming record.
Wonder what Mariah’s new album will sound like? Well, we have a few ideas, five to be exact. Check them out here.
