To celebrate the upcoming release of his new album, Neon Future 1, DJ and EDM impresario Steve Aoki has announced a special show at New York City’s Madison Square Garden.
The full-length release, which is now set for an Aug. 12 street date, will feature a plethora of high-profile special guests, including Waka Flocka Flame, Fall Out Boy, Empire of the Sun and Bonnie McKee. The album is the first of what’s being touted as a two-part release, with the second half expected to hit retailers sometime in 2015.
“They’re two different soundscapes,” Aoki told Billboard when asked to differentiate the two parts that make up the whole Neon Future experience. “The second album is more… it’s a deeper album. There’s other collaborations on there that I did with Linkin Park and also Snoop [Dogg]. There’s other songs that are more upfront, like the Snoop song. It’s also easier to digest eight songs at a time, instead of 16 songs at one full blast.”
Today (April 22), Aoki held a press conference in New York to announce the Madison Square Garden date, which is scheduled for Aug. 16, four days after the album’s release.
“We’re going to turn this place upside down and make a statement– it’s an experience beyond a show for me. It’s a place where I can be myself,” Aoki said during a press conference to announce the MSG show (via Thump). For fans unable to make the trek to New York for the event, it can be watched via a live stream. Watch the trailer for the album and concert below.
Aoki also used the press conference to reveal a new partnership with Bud Light Platinum, which will include a 30-second TV commercial featuring his track, “Boneless”.
