Lorde is taking some much needed time off. Doctor’s orders.
The teenage singer has been forced to cancel her upcoming Australian tour so that she can head home to New Zealand for “immediate rest and recuperation in order to regain complete health and continue touring for the rest of the year,” according to a statement issued by Melbourne-based promoter Frontier Touring (via Billboard).
Lorde took to Twitter to explain what exactly ails her, writing that she has a “nasty chest infection.”
“I am so so gutted to have to do this but my parents and my team stepped in telling me i needed a break after being non-stop since the grammys in january,” she wrote. “We will 100% be back for this tour (most likely in november) so don’t worry about that. i just need time to get back to full gollum girl fitness before i go out playing shows again.”
The singer–who just recently performed both weekends of Coachella, and before that made a special appearance at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction to sing with Nirvana–was slated to play eight gigs Down Under starting April 24 at Melbourne’s Festival Hall.
It was just announced today that she will also be playing the second weekend of this year’s Austin City Limits Music Festival. That festival will include performances from Eminem, Pearl Jam, OutKast, Lana del Rey, Skrillex, Beck and Calvin Harris.
