Young Thug Channels Weezy on ‘Chickens’

By Courtney E. Smith

Thuggary and camel toe, these are the themes explored by Young Thug in a new track off DJ Iceberg’s Monopoly Music 9 mix tape, titled “Chickens”. There’s some playing on Lil Wayne’s flow here, as well as his absurd lyrics (we’re looking at you, “baby girl I want to come into you like Aladdin”), but the sing-song mixed with rap delivery is a method that’s been in the Atlanta game for quite some time.

In an interview with Complex earlier this year, Young Thug revealed he had recorded a few tracks with Kanye West. We’re speculating to say it may be for the same project Evian Christ said he was producing beats for, but Young Thug did confirm exactly how he wowed West.

“The fact that I was [making songs] so fast amazed him too, because he doesn’t see a lot of people who rap like that,” Young Thug said. “I don’t really rap with a lot of people [because] everyone raps the same way. When I first heard he wanted to know who I was and do songs, I was smiling ear to ear like a clown.”

Last month, the rapper revealed he was planning on calling his debut album Carter VI, piggybacking off Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter releases, as well as an upcoming collaboration album with Metro Boomin called Metro Thuggin, which is supposed to be released sometime this spring.

Hear his flow in the track below.
