A woman has died after collapsing at the Coachella Music Festival’s first weekend last week, The Hollywood Reporter reports.
Kimchi Truong, 24, from Oakland, Calif., died Thursday afternoon (April 18), nearly a week after collapsing on the festival grounds April 12. Concert promoter Goldenvoice is calling Truong’s death an “apparent drug overdose,” though the local sheriff-coroner’s office is unsure at this time.
“We’re testing to find out whether drugs or alcohol are involved in the death,” Sgt. Curt James of the Riverside County sheriff-coroner’s office told THR. He noted that it could take up to six weeks to know if drugs and/or alcohol contributed.
Truong was taken to JFK Memorial Hospital in Indio after being attended to by on-site medical staff, and later transferred to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs.
“We are saddened to learn the individual has died,” Goldenvoice, which promotes Coachella, said in a statement. “We believe this to be an unfortunate but isolated incident. Our thoughts and condolences are with the family and friends.”
Coachella starts its second weekend today (April 19).
