The obiquitous Pharrell may be “Happy” all over the place, but he’s not losing his edge. That’s the best reason we can think of for his team-up with Major Lazer, aka Diplo, on “Aerosol Can.” The track, which is little more than Pharrell rapping a series of quick verses over the sound of drums played on buckets, gets an interesting video treatment that is absolutely void of Pharrell or aerosol cans.
Instead, graffiti artist Mike Giant interprets the song’s lyrics on white walls with animated graphics mixed in his signature tag style, which is practically a font machine. He does it shirtless, so show off his fully tattooed back, arms and even the back of his head.
To get that eyes playing tricks on me vibe that the drugs mentioned in the lyrics would give anyone, the graphics are kept very twichy and surreal.
It’s a departure from the usual Diplo/Major Lazer fare, thanks to director Kyle dePina who lets after effects do the heavy lifting instead of ladies butts. Watch with your own two lovely eyes below.
