Looks like Axl Rose and Duff McKagan have an appetite for reunification.
Beginning last night in Buenos Aires, Guns N’ Roses kicked off a multi-date set featuring original bassist McKagan back in the lineup for the first time since 2010. McKagan is slated to perform with the band for the final five nights of the band’s South American tour, finishing up April 17 in Fortaleza, Brazil.
In an interview with Billboard, current Guns N’ Roses bassist Tommy Stinson noted that McKagan is filling in for him to “help Axl out.” Stinson has obligations with the Replacements for their Coachella set this weekend.
McKagan exited the band in 1997, which left Rose as the band’s sole original member. Since then, reunions with old band members have been few and far between, including a few shows in 2006 with rhythm guitarist Izzy Stradlin.
At the band’s 2012 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony, McKagan performed as part of the band — but Rose and Stradlin were famously absent.
Stinson will rejoin the band May 13 in Bethlehem, Pa.
Unless you’re already in South America or can hop a plane on short notice, McKagan’s reunion with Guns N’ Roses may be nothing more than a YouTube viewing experience. Regardless, below are the remaining dates at which the band’s former bassist will perform.
