By Shannon Carlin

UPDATE (April 4, 4:20 pm EST): Well, we were right. Sheeran’s big news was the announcement of his new album. The singer took to his Twitter this afternoon to let fans know, “My 2nd album is called ‘x’ or ‘multiply’ and will released on the 23rd of June worldwide. Can’t wait for you guys to hear it.”

Ed Sheeran fans, the wait for new music is officially almost over.

The singer took to Instagram today (April 4) to tease his new single “Sing” with a shot of the cover, which is simply the word sing written in lime green on a black background.

Though Sheeran didn’t share an audio clip of the track, he did write that the song will premiere this Monday (April 7) on Zane Lowe’s BBC radio show.

He also wrote, “Lots of other stuff happening this weekend leading up to it, so watch this space…. #sing”

So what is Sheeran going to reveal? It’s a safe bet that he’s finally ready to announce a release date for the follow-up to his 2011 album, +. Especially since two months back he teased a snippet of a new song, a sweet strummer that has him singing,”Honey, now.”  No word yet if that is in fact his new single.

Sheeran will most likely perform “Sing” and another new track when he hits the Saturday Night Live stage on April 12.
