Legendary pairings seem to be the theme of some of this summer’s biggest tours. KISS and Def Leppard are hitting the road togetherAerosmith and Slash will also tour together this year. Now, ZZ Top and guitar-god Jeff Beck have announced a joint trek, kicking off in August. The five week tour will stop in Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Denver, Detroit, Boston and New York City, among other cities.

The plan is for Beck to perform first, followed by ZZ Top; each act will play full sets. Then a finale will see Beck joining the Texan trio for what promises to be a face-melting finale. In a press statement, ZZ Top’s Billy Gibbons noted that he’s been a fan of Beck’s since his guitar powered the Yardbirds in the ’60s. “Ever since experiencing ‘Jeff’s Boogie,’ the prospect of performance with Jeff Beck on the deck brings us into focus with the curator of crunch.” Beck, like ZZ Top, combined guitar-fueled rock with synthesizers and samplers in the ’80s, said, “Ever since Eliminator I thought it would be great to play with ZZ Top.”

In 2009, Gibbons joined Jeff Beck and his band on stage at the 25th anniversary celebration of the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame at New York’s Madison Square Garden, where they performed the Jimi Hendrix Experience’s “Foxey Lady” and ZZ Top’s hit “Rough Boy” together. The following year Jeff Beck joined ZZ Top in Lucca, Italy for an extended rendition of the band’s signature piece “La Grange.” This, however, marks the first time Jeff Beck and ZZ Top will have done any sort of extensive touring together.

Last year, Beck co-headlined a tour with Brian Wilson and some of the other former members of the Beach Boys; that show also featured collaborations between the two acts; he has also done a tour where he performed separately and together with Eric Clapton.
