It may not be much of a surprise to hear that Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love were not the best tenants. But if a picture’s really worth a thousand words then a new batch of photos revealing the couple’s apartment in Los Angeles after they moved out in 1992 speak for themselves. Like seriously, if it turns out to be true that cleanliness is close to godliness, they’re about as far away as you can get.
Photos taken by a press photographer two years before Cobain’s tragic death, reveal a filthy apartment filled with piles of garbage that include unopened mail, old copies of Rolling Stone, prescription pill bottles and drug paraphernalia including a syringe and a burnt spoon.
Shots reveal carpets stained with unrecognizable stains and walls covered in spray painted graffiti. While one specific photo shows a videotape of the Nirvana single “Come As You Are” next to a polaroid picture, a withered rose, and a letter from California Congressman Henry Waxman, considered to be one of the most liberal lawmakers on the Hill.

The photos continue an increased interest in Cobain as the 20th anniversary of his death on April 5 looms.
Recently, the Seattle police reopened case surrounding his 1994 death because of new evidence in the form of four rolls of film that were not developed at the time of the investigation. They almost immediately closed the case after there was no indication that this new evidence pointed towards any foul play involved in the singer’s untimely death.
