Back in 2011, Lady Gaga and her mother, Cynthia Germanotta, launched the Born This Way Foundation, a charity organization with a mission “to foster a more accepting society, where differences are embraced and individuality is celebrated.”
This week, Showbiz 411 has called the foundation’s charitable efforts into question after perusing its tax records, which reveal that out of the $2.1 million in net assets, just a mere $5,000 was spent on actual grants and charity donations.
What the Born This Way Foundation’s tax records do show is that large sums of money were spent on digital “Strategic Consulting” ($300,000), “Legal” ($406,552) and the most eyebrow-raising category of simply “other” (a staggering $808,661).
Last year, the Foundation’s most visible efforts centered around the “Born Brave Bus Tour,” which hit 23 events in 18 cities around the country.
While Gaga has yet to respond to the claims, if there’s one thing we’ve learned about Mother Monster over the years is that she doesn’t take kindly to such public accusations and will likely air her side of the situation sooner rather than later.
