Now, the ultra-conservative FOX News pundit (like there’s any other kind) has strangely used an interview with rap icon Russell Simmons to take Beyoncé to task for the admittedly risque music video for her current single, “Partition.”
“She puts out a new album with a video that glorifies having sex in the back of a limousine,” O’Reilly ranted (via Spin) “Teenage girls look up to Beyoncé, particularly girls of color… Why on Earth would this woman do that? Why would she do it when she knows the devastation that unwanted pregnancies… and fractured families — why would Beyoncé do that?”
Using President Obama’s “My Brother’s Keeper” initiative as leverage, O’Reilly pressed Simmons–who was on the show to promote his new book Success Through Stillness–on Beyoncé’s responsibility to younger fans when releasing such sexually charged images into the world.
“I believe an entertainer like Beyoncé and a mogul like you have an obligation to protect children, not put out exploitive garbage that you know harms impressionable children,” the FOX newsman continued. “I think Beyoncé, what she has done here, is inexplicable and I’m asking you, Russell Simmons, to explain it to me.”
Despite Simmons’ attempt at labeling the song and video as artistic expressions, O’Reilly was not having any of it.
“That’s art?! Beyoncé having sex in the back of a limo and referencing Monica Lewinsky, that’s art?” O’Reilly ranted at Simmons, who was likely wondering what any of this had to do with his book.
